Mother’s Day is the sweetest holiday. Call me an old sap, but I just love it. When I was grocery shopping on Friday afternoon, there were men swarming around the florals department of the grocery store. And I swear there were more families out for walks around the park than usual yesterday.
This year, as with the past few years, I couldn’t spend the day with my mom – she’s working hard up on the North Slope of Alaska. But I thought of her all day, and I sent her a little care package to open when she gets back to Anchorage at the end of her current rotation. (My parents love homemade biscotti, so I made batches of lemon-almond, orange-pistachio, and chocolate-raspberry biscotti. I had to mail them quickly before I ate them all, on my own. Yikes. I also sent my mom these Kendra Scott earrings – hope she loves them!)
We did celebrate mother’s day with my mother-in-law, though, and that was fun – we spent a relaxing afternoon eating Persian food and watching HGTV. I made raspberry tartlets from this Bon Appétit recipe and some shortbread tartlet shells I picked up at Kroger. Yummm.
To all the sweet mamas out there – thanks for everything that you do, for all the sacrifices that you make, and all of the hugs, kisses, and love that you shower on your kids, young and old. We are forever indebted to you.
